Pearl Harbor
Research Paper Introduction
During World War II, the United States had remained a neutral party. On December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked, and the U.S. was officially at war. Japan’s merciless attack was made directly onto civilians and docked naval ships. No-one saw this coming and everyone was taken by surprise. The United States had been forced into “The War”. After President Roosevelt died, it became the responsibility of President Truman to manage the United States actions in World War II, specifically the war in the Pacific. Three years after the initial attack on Pearl Harbor, President Truman felt that the most effective way to end the war, save countless lives, and stop Japan’s empire from growing would be to drop atomic bombs on Japan. This would display the real power that the U.S. wielded. Though there have been several opinions for President Truman’s reasonings for usage of the atomic bombs, the decision was justified to end the war as soon as possible, to be able to invade Japan, therefore stopping the empire from growing stronger and to defend the attack on Pearl Harbor.
