PART #1. 5s methodology (30 points)

Select the area or workplace you would like to improve.

  1. Identify problems in the selected area that you believe can be solved by implementing 5s procedure. List the problems.
  2. Submit the layout of the selected place and show a picture as evidence of the current problems/situation you may have. This area could be your own personal closet, your kitchen cabinets, your office, your workplace area, etc. Layout could be submitted using a CAD software or Microsoft word, or picture.

Evaluate your current workplace area by using the 5s audit checklist. Make a 5s checklist to evaluate the workplace organization. Your 5s audit checklist should include a radar graph indicating the evaluation of the workplace score. See following link to build a radar graph. You can also look for more resources/ videos on building radar graphs. You can use the 5s checklist Excel file to evaluate your area. You can use the same information shown in the Excel checklist if applicable to your area. If not, you need then come out with your own list of problems. In the Excel checklist, when you see that the highest score is 5, it means that there are zero problems in that particular subject.

PART #2 Kaizen (20 points)

  1. Write a page essay about the relationship between Kaizen and lean manufacturing. Use times roman 1.5 space between lines.

PART #3 DFM (20 points)

  1. Write a page, 1.5 space on the theory of design for manufacturing such as definition, advantages, disadvantages, talk about the implementation procedure, and talk about challenges in implementing it.

PART #4 FMEA (30 points)

Application of FMEA (Failure Mode Effect and Analysis) to design a product.
